ROSS NEILSEN-ELEMENTAL-CD REVIEW -BLUE ROUTE VIA ROOTS ROAD-BY JOHN EMMS

Ross_Neilsen_by_Scott_Doubt_bw

For all the right reasons the best songs on Ross Neilsen’s cd Elemental are songs such as the rootsy Nobody Get’s Lonely, the gorgeous City of Regret co-written with Paul Reddick and the Blue Rodeo vibe of

Step Into the Light.

Though Neilsen is blues infused his roots road serves up the goods time in and time out on Elemental.

Producer Steve Marriner has a ton of experience and puts it to excellent use to pull out the emotion of Neilsen’s voice on tracks like the MonkeyJunk-esque Woman’s Name the jazzy textures of The Arrow and

the funky take on Willie P. Bennett’s Ballad In Low E

Not enough can be said about the great Jimmy Bowskill. His guitar solos, pedal steel work or any for that matter any stringed instrument are simply jaw dropping.

Sometimes music is made for the right reasons and Ross Neilsens’s Elemental is secure in that category.
