KENNY BLUES BOSS WAYNE-JUMPIN’ & BOPPIN-CD REVIEW “JOYFUL SOUND”-BY JOHN EMMS

kbbw..red

Kenny Blues Boss Wayne creates a joyous ‘groovy’ album with Jumpin’ and Boppin’ his latest cd.

And there is never anything wrong with slippin’ this cd on at a barbecue or riding down the highway.

It rocks on Bankrupted Blues, it grooves on the fantastic Blues Stew and it gets Jimmy Reed-esque on Blackmail Blues.

Duke Robillard stabs in lead guitar all over the album and with KBBW’s supple piano chops you’re in bop land with the great horn section.

One of the best performances comes late in the album with the exceptional Back To Square One. This song has a 60’s Ray Charles feel.

KBBW also does a great cover of You Don’t Know Me which Charles brought into the top of billboard top 5 in 1962.

As Kenny says “If you don’t know how to rock you sure can roll”

Amen to that

LEE AARON-CONCERT REVIEW/TIMMINS JUNE 26TH/HERITAGE ARTISTS-by John Emms

13512069_1285304091482420_5936148766615837197_n[1]IMG_0530[1]lee and her band

Two things you should know about Lee Aaron before heading out to see her concert tour or any other acts this summer.

She and her band are in vintage form and her new album Fire and Gasoline  is an intelligent highly listenable rock album.

At a recent tour stop in Timmins, Aaron and her great band “killed it”

Aaron’s set was a muscular one behind the excellent section of drummer John Cody, bassist Dave Reimer and the keyboards/guitar from Kevin Saulnier.

On the front end the expansive technique and superb chops of lead guitarist Sean Kelly provided plenty of firepower.

Aaron’s formidable front lady/voice and sometimes metal queen persona were never in doubt from the opening salvo of Tomboy from her latest album.

In fact if had 10 dollars from every person who approached me after the show or in the following days with the line “Wow, John, Lee Aaron’s voice sounded fantastic” I would have my summer vintage wine selection ready for consumption.

Whether it was songs such as Whatcha Do to My Body, Some Girls Do or Metal Queen (which I banged my head to) or the new and very catchy Fire and Gasoline title track and Bad Boyfriend the band hit a groove that was organic as hell.

However, the one thing that elevates Aaron is her connection to the fans.

It is without a doubt, a total joy to witness.

It is a lock folks!

Stay tune with me later this year when I get my iTunes music podcast back on track with a format that will include Roots/Rock/and Blues.

When Artists such Lee Aaron and others create new and exciting work I will let you know.
