It may seem strange this long into a career but Blues Heaven is Mark May’s most consistent song cycle and radio ready album.
The title track is easily the most soulful song any Bluesman has written in the last few years with killer solos by May and sax man Eric Demmer
May is a chameleon of many blues styles.
There is the Jimmy Vaughan influence of She’s a Keeper, the Warren Haynes vibe of Almost Like A Suicide and the Butterfield Blues Band roll of Put Down That Poison.
Other standouts are the R & B groove of Garden of Truth and the superb Bernard Allison vibe on Money (not the Pink Floyd track)
Excellent work, great band.
